Yoga has helped me to move forward. Literally! My journey into yoga starts from a dark place, with physical pains and emotional trauma, but eventually they led me to yoga.
I remember that, the first yoga class I took back in 2015 it seemed like the most boring activity! Back then I had to swallow every yoga class like a pill, like when I was little. I felt “weak” every time I returned to the mat and associated the practice with a medical act, with a downgrade to my highly intense fitness activity.
I got back on the mat in 2018, a year full of changes on all fronts, when I don’t know how, but I remembered about yoga. Slowly and without realising it, I came to practice almost daily. This time, I returned to yoga classes more conscious, more open and without any obligation. After dealing with back pains for several years and trying all kinds of therapies and exercises I ended up creating my own set of movements as a kind of self care tool.
What had worked for me? For me, yoga meant acceptance, physical and emotional release, peace and an inexplicable sense of well-being. During the yoga practice I developed new senses, I learned to pay attention to my own body, listen to it and stay in the present.
However, the radical change came in 2020 when I practiced for a month at the Integral Yoga Institute in New York and I realized that yoga is not just about sitting in a certain position being either easier or more complicated. I decided that I wanted to know more about anatomy, physiology, philosophy and history of yoga, pranayama and the Ayurvedic lifestyle. So, I took a 200-hours Teacher’s Training at YogNova, accredited by Yoga Alliance International, where I consolidated my daily practice and learned how to integrate different Yoga postures in my body bu also in different types of bodies.
Who would have thought that my back pains were actually leading me to a different path, both personally and professionally?
That because of them I became a yoga teacher and I can share my experience, I can guide others so that they can prevent or manage back pains more easily?
Who can practice yoga? Anybody. At any age, weight and any gender. If you are breathing you can practice yoga.Yoga means “union” and invites us all to rediscover ourselves on the mat, to withdraw from the chaotic life, to feel more relaxed and happier.
