Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine with long-held postures, usually seated. It focuses not on heating and stretching the muscles, but on elongating and strengthening connective tissue.
The beauty of this practice is that it can be deceptively intense, although different from a “yang” intensity and relaxing, calming, restoring, but definitely not in the restorative yoga way.
Amongst the principal benefits are the fact that this practice enhances both our endurance and patience, helping to move further our threshold of resistance.
The Chinese medicine principle of yin and yang refers to the harmonious nature of the opposite and complementary elements that make up the universe. Yin is cool, slow, and passive while yang is warm, fast, and active (ashtanga and vinyasa yoga).
Yin yoga is very meditative in nature, static, relaxing and taught in a calm and gentle way, closer to the ground.
